Spring 2010 Programs

Cooking and eating together touches people deeply. In the Spring, Gaia House is offering three dinner series:

InterVeg: Thursday evening, from 6:30-7:30 pm, cook it yourself vegetarian potluck
No need to be vegetarian or vegan to join. Just bring your favorite homemade dish or item to share, or join us before the meal to help cook. After each meal, there will be an optional program to discuss the
impact of food on your life and our world.

Rice and Spice: Every Friday night at 6 pm enjoy an international slow food dinner. Cooks and hungry people from all countries are invited. New international recipes each week. Visit our website to learn more about the weekly dinners (www.usmsiuc.org)

Progressive Christian Students: Each Sunday, join us for a good meal and healthy discussion based on the series: “Dream, Think, Be Do: Living the Questions for Young Adults,”
DTBD is an engaging catalyst for conversation providing insight into living as a Christian in the 21st Century. Call for menus and times.

SNRS, Spiritual Not Religious Students, will meet regularly this Spring to explore spiritual issues affecting university students. Discussions lead by Kim Maguire.

Faculty Forum: This discussion series will gather faculty and interested graduate students to explore critical issues related to the personal, social and institutional value dimension of teaching, learning, researching, and administering at SIUC, and higher education in general. The discussion will be personal and practical so as to positively impact the practices and the culture of SIUC.

Gaia Gatherings: Once a month informal potluck or cook-out will be hosted to informally discuss Gaia House mission and issues with Board, staff, student and faculty leaders and advisors, local pastors and church leaders, consultants, university and city contacts. Everyone is invited to share their thoughts and enjoy a nice meal.

Special Events: Throughout the semester Gaia House will host a number of events lectures, commemorations, fundraisers,  rallies, receptions, dinners, interfaith forums, and the like sponsored by Gaia House or in coalition with other co-sponsors.
