STAFF AND BOARD

Hugh Muldoon has come out of retirement to serve as the Director of Gaia House and the building director of the Interfaith Center. 
His interests include environmental justice and community development.  He has worked with the Illinois United Ministries in Higher Education and the National Campus Ministry Association for several years. He is a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd (United Church of Christ) in Carbondale. Contact Hugh at hugh@ucmsiuc.org

R. Michael Fisher, Ph.D. is our new "go-to-guy" for things educational and research focused. He joined our organization in August of 2009 and has now committed his time and attention to helping out every Tuesdaya nd Thursday between 9 am and 4 pm. Michael (pronounced MY-kay-ell) will lend an ear in a safe and professional environment for: assisting students with organizing their ideas, research projects, formal papers, theses, and dissertations; offering support for personal growth and development; problem solving related to educational issues or personal projects. You can drop in and see Michael in his new office, the Center for Spiritual Inquiry and Integral Education, in the Dave Colombo Library at Gaia House - Interfaith Center. BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Kemal Akkaya, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor in the Computer Science Department at SIU and is advisor for Intercultural Student Dialogue Association. He is from Turkey and a member of the Muslim faith.
Michael Batinski, Ph.D. is a member of the Society of Friends and is recently retired from the History Department of SIUC. Michael is currently on sabbatical.
Bill Bauman is a former U.S. Air Force officer and principle of the MX Group of Companies.
Aur Beck is an at-large member of our Board. He is the owner of Advanced Energy Solutions and also Board President of Southern Illinois Center for a Sustainable Future.
Gavin Betzelberger is a student at SIU and is involved in many activities at Gaia House and also on campus. He is a Mennonite/Quaker.
Pradnya Dharmadhirkari is a long time resident of Carbondale and currently teaches Hatha Yoga.
Martha Ellert, Ph.D. is a member of the 1st Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Carbondale. She is retired from SIUC and has served in leadership roles for the Illinois Wisconsin Region of the Disciples of Christ. She is a founding member of our Labyrinth Committee.
Robin Morrow England is a student pursuing a degree in Architecture from SIU.  She is LEED accredited. 
Kathy Frith, Ed.D. represents the Sunyata Buddhist Center.  Kathy is a Professor in the Journalism Department at SIU and is advisor for the Buddhist Fellowship RSO.
Michael Frith also represents the Sunyata Buddhist Center.  Michael, now retired, worked previously in international development.
Millie Hankla is President Emerita and currently our Board Vice President and Fund Raising Chairperson. She is a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Cobden, IL and active in the Presbyterian Church USA at various levels.
Jim Hanson, Ph.D. is an at-large member of our Board. He is an author and has worked on numerous economic development projects in Southern Illinois.  Jim is affiliated with the Shawnee Dharma Group.
Gillian Harrison is a Medical Social Worker at Carbondale Memorial Hospital. She has been a teacher and professor, and is a practicing Zen Buddhist and attends the Carbondale Unitarian Fellowship and the Shawnee Dharma Group.
John Hochheimer, Ph.D. is a Professor in the Department of Radio and Television a SIUC.  He has a special interest in spirituality and education.
Vince Kelly is an at-large member of our Board. He is a high school teacher of Science and Math. Vince is affiliated with several past and present groups that partner with the Interfaith Center including Synergy, the Quakers, and Shawnee Dharma. Vince is currently on sabbatical.
Al Parr is our Board President. Recently retired from SIUC, and enjoying his new granddaughter, Al is an active member of the1st Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Carbondale.
Erika Peterson, Ph.D. is our Board Treasurer. A talented writer, Erika is taking time off from her Psychology teaching career to be a full time mother to Cordelia and Clark. She is member of the Church of the Good Shepherd (UCC) in Carbondale.
Yolan Presley is our Emeritus member. She is a homemaker and sometime figurative artist. She is a practicing Buddhist and a member of the Carbondale Unitarian Fellowship.
Brent Ritzel is a Carbondale native and local activist involved in many organizations and also serves as President of the Board of the R.Buckminster Fuller Dome NFP.
Bob Swenson is an Architect by profession and currently teaches Architecture as an Associate Professor at SIUC. He is a member of the Carbondale Unitarian Fellowship. Bob was recently honored with an Illinois State Historical Society's Lifetime Achievement Award. See the full story: LINK
Gene Turk is a Yale Law School graduate and former Assistant Dean of the SIU School of Law. He is now in private practice in the Carbondale area.
